I was required in my university course to create an online presence for myself to promote myself when finishing the degree. I had previously created this portfolio site to promote myself and had already been promoting myself under the name of Simple Line Design, so I decided to have a little fun where it came to creating the online presence for the university assignment.
I had previously came across the idea of a life stream and began to think of how it could be applied to my online life. I had seen on many different sites that people had begun to add their latest tweet or twitter post to areas in their website and it got me to wondering what other social networking posts I could take and display all on the one page. For twitter and buzz this was very easy and straightforward, but for facebook this became more difficult. I will maybe write a blog post on how I achieved it at a later date.
After adding the streams from the social networking sites that I am part of I began thinking of what other elements of my ‘life stream’ I cold add to the site and began working out how to display my latest blog entry and piece of portfolio work from this site and have it automatically updated. This actually proved as easy as copying the code used by wordpress to display the latest post on the frontpage of this site and adding an absolute link to the pages URL.
This all started out as an idea to try something new and see what could be done using the technologies available to me. Unknown to me a design agency in Belfast was to take it upon themselves to rate all of the portfolio sites in my year after they had been submitted. It was a great shock and an honor to have my lifestream portfolio voted into the first place position due to the originality of the idea.
